NEW! #StudyGood: Expression of Interest (2019-2020) touchconsulting Ltd has been contracted by the Education and Training Foundation to deliver Study Programme support to organisations across the education and training sector to enhance and develop their 16-19 Study Programme provision, leading to improved outcomes for learners.

23 providers can take advantage of an innovative, high-quality tailored and subsidised support package (£1,750) spanning September 2019 to March 2020, which includes six days of bespoke mentor support, two in=house training sessions from a menu of four, which includes 'Using maths and English confidently in your vocation', access to a blended Community of Practice, priority access to three Study Programme Guides created for the sector and fully subsidised places at the March 2020 #StudyGood Conference. Register your interest here.

Using phonics-based teaching at Entry Level - Awareness Session (East and North) Webinar Monday 15th July, Tuesday 30th July and Thursday 15th August The session aims to introduce the CPD programme developed to support Functional English practitioners in exploring phonics-based teaching approaches at Entry Levels. It provides an opportunity to discuss the benefits and challenges of using such approaches with post 16 learners and explores some of the key principles that underpin the teaching strategies covered in the one day courses.

NEW! Advanced Practitioner Case Study: Evaluating the Advanced Practitioner Role – Champions in Maths and English, South Devon College and Bridgwater & Taunton College This case study is from one of 15 collaborative projects, across a range of cross-sector partnerships that were commissioned by the Education and Training Foundation to support Phase 4 of the Outstanding Teaching, Learning and Assessment (OTLA) programme. The partnership wanted to explore how they could use the role of the AP to address the challenge of increasing learner attendance, achievement and satisfaction when taking GCSE and Functional Skills Maths and English qualifications.

NEW! Learning Support Assistants in Further Education The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) has developed this guidance report in partnership with the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF). It is to help leaders and managers in the Further Education (FE) and Training sector make evidence-informed decisions about how best to design the Learning Support Assistant (LSA) role, and to deploy and support LSAs to improve learner outcomes across their organisation, setting and contexts.

Continual Professional Development

Current opportunities for continual professional development relating to English in Further Education

English Pathways Free online modules and self-evaluation tools to develop your personal English skills at level 2, with some extension to level 3 (both Functional Skills and GCSE). Engagement in these tools will guide practitioners in prioritising developmental needs which can then be supported by the courses provided by the Education and Training Foundation.

Functional Skills: Reforms and National Materials Webinar Monday 22nd July, Monday 19th August and Monday 16th September The aim of the interactive webinar is to introduce subject content and time-frames around the new functional skills. You will be updated on the Reforms including the Reform progress, changes to subject content and assessment approaches and highlights of key dates going forwards.The webinar will also help you make the most of the one day or two CPD programmes that explore the Functional Skills materials in detail.

Leading teaching and learning for maths and English managers Birmingham, Days 1 & 2: 28-29 November 2019, Day 3 Spring 2020 Are you responsible for managing maths and/or English in your organisation? Looking for innovative ways of working, fresh strategies and support from peers? Join over 100+ plus managers who have participated in the Education and Training Foundation's innovative three-day CPD programme for Maths & English managers. The programme comprises an intensive 2-day residential, an interim work based project plus day 3.

Exciting new resources for the management and/or delivery of English in Further Education

*NEW* Exhibition Gateway Page for Learners New to ESOL A new page exhibiting materials designed to support practitioners (teachers, classroom assistants, volunteers and others) working with ESOL learners who are often referred to as being at ‘pre-Entry’ level. In these materials we refer to these learners as ‘learners new to ESOL.’ Materials include intitial assessment (or screening) resources and guidance, as well as teaching, learning and assessment matierials for learners new to ESOL. 

NEW! Post-16 Phonics Approches: A Toolkit The toolkit has been specifically designed for the post-16 sector, exploring approaches to phonics teaching, the essential concepts, how to assess learners’ needs and resources designed for adult learners. The three parts of the toolkit introduce some of the terms used in phonics to describe key aspects of spoken and written language, describe what phonics looks like in the post-16 classroom and explain how to put post-16 phonics approaches into practice in your setting, adjusting the pace and sequence for your learners.
